Wait a little longer? Manchester United preseason is encouraging, fans have different opinions on postponing protests

Manchester night reported that as the new Premier League approaches, Manchester United fans have different opinions on the ownership of the club.

In February 2024, Ratcliff acquired a minority stake in Old Trafford and controlled football operations, making some controversial decisions. In the Premier League last season, the club raised the ticket price of a single game to £66 and did not offer discounts to children and the elderly, a move that has aroused strong dissatisfaction among fans. Manchester United performed poorly last season and ended up only ranked 15th, setting its worst record in 51 years. Throughout the season, fans organized protests against the club's ownership.

fan group "1958" was originally scheduled to hold a new protest before Sunday's game against Arsenal, but after soliciting fans' opinions, they decided to postpone the protest. Amorin received support from new players such as Cunya, Mbemo, Sesco and Diego Leon. His preseason performance was encouraging, which also led to a split of fans' opinions.

The survey shows that among more than 2,000 fans, 59% of Manchester United fans said they were dissatisfied with the club's ownership. The "1958" fan group conducted its own survey (received 26,000 responses), further highlighting that fans disagree on whether to give INEOS more time to prove themselves.

"1958" announced the postponement of the protest: "After careful consideration and given the findings, we have decided to postpone the protests that were originally scheduled to be against Arsenal on Saturday, August 17. For us, it is always about the fans, about how we are treated by the club and its owners. We want to protect the future of Manchester United, ensure football is affordable for everyone, especially the young people, protect the fan culture, and ensure that the next generation of fans inherit a responsible and respected club."

"These long-term goals are more than any signing or training ground Renovation is important. Given the diversity and enthusiasm of our fan groups, it is not always easy to find the right balance. We must consider the momentum, timing, fan wishes and the wider consequences of the protests, while assessing the impact of current and future decisions on us as fans. Given the current sentiment of the fan group, especially the recent findings, it is clear that there is no unified view on the direction of the club under Ratcliffe. This division is true and we believe that continuing protests in this situation may lead to ‘infighting in the Red Devils’, which is irresponsible.”
