Rooney revealed that Sir Ferguson had not spoken to Manchester United players for two weeks after a disappointing defeat.
Rooney revealed Ferguson's behavior after Manchester United lost to Portsmouth in 2008. It was a FA Cup quarterfinal, meaning Manchester United missed the chance to win the Premier League and the Champions League.
In the BBC's Wayne Rooney Show, the former Manchester United captain explained the team's cold response after the defeat: "Once we played against Portsmouth in the FA Cup quarterfinals, Thomas Kushchak was sent off and Ferdinand went to keep the goal. We lost 0-1 at Old Trafford, and that year we won the league and the Champions League. I think it was Middlesbrough and Cardiff who entered the semi-finals and finals. Sir Ferguson didn't talk to us for two weeks."
host Kelly Summers asked Rooney how Ferguson got his job done without communicating with the players.
Rooney: "We still have games to play, and he chose the roster on the day of the game. He won't look at you when you walk by him in the corridor. For two whole weeks, because he knows that it's a huge opportunity to win a triple. We try to avoid him. If you see him coming from the corridor, you'll take another road."
Ferguson has led Manchester United to a triple-champ in 1998-99, but this time there's a chance to lead different players to achieve this feat. Despite this, Manchester United won the Premier League title the following season and won twice in the following years.
