Former Arsenal midfielder Thomas was charged with five counts of rape and one count of sexual assault, according to The Athletic.
The allegations involved three women, allegedly occurring between 2021 and 2022. The London Police Department began an investigation into Thomas after receiving a rape report in February 2022.
The five rape charges involve events allegedly occurring from April 21 to May 31, 2021, April to June 2021, December 2021, February 2022 and June 2022. The sexual assault allegations involve an incident that allegedly occurred in February 2022.
Thomas was not asked to defend, but he had previously denied all charges.
He was granted conditional bail at a hearing Tuesday.
Under the conditions of bail, Thomas must report any international travel plans to the police 24 hours in advance and shall not contact the complainant directly or indirectly.
Thomas is about to join La Liga team Villarreal in a free transfer, and he is scheduled to appear again at the Old Bailey Court in London on September 2.
Thomas arrived at the court in a multi-seater car with his legal representative on Tuesday in a black car and refused to speak to the media outside the court.
Thomas has been the subject of investigation since February 2022 and has been playing for Arsenal before the expiration of his contract in June 2025. He was formally prosecuted on July 4.
In April this year, Thomas had negotiated to stay at Arsenal, but failed to reach an agreement on the terms of the contract.
In the 2024-25 season, Thomas made 52 appearances for Arsenal. He joined Arsenal from Atletico Madrid for 50 million euros in 2020.
He has undergone a physical examination from Villarreal and is expected to join the team soon.
Arsenal will host Villarreal at Emirates Stadium on Wednesday for a pre-season friendly match.
