Alan Padu recently interviewed talkSPORT and talked about England striker Lewin, whose contract with Everton just expired.
Lewin became a free agent after leaving Everton, and Newcastle coach Eddie Howe has been favoring him for a long time. The Magpie, who qualified for the Champions League last season, considered introducing Lewin last summer and eventually gave up due to the high transfer cost.
But Newcastle is not the only competitor. talkSPORT learned that the 28-year-old scorer is also on Manchester United's forward signing list this summer. After missing the Portuguese sports forward Yorke, the Red Devils urgently need to strengthen their firepower. Leeds United also wanted to invite an appointment, but gave up because they could not meet their salary requirements.
If Newcastle successfully signs Lewin, he will compete with Isaac. Isaac, who scored 44 league goals in the past two seasons, was previously served as the substitute by Wilson, but the England striker has officially announced his departure after his contract expires. Although it is quite difficult to shake Isaac's main position, former Premier League coach Alan Padu believes that the old Everton player still has strength. The key point is that the contract requires playing time terms. After all, he missed 15 games due to injury last season.
Padu said: "When signing, you must agree that the number of appearances is linked to salary. If you can achieve such terms, he will be an ideal lineup puzzle. We all know that he is a top striker in the Premier League at the peak of his condition."
Padu even compared Lewin with Yorke, who had 54 goals in 52 games last season: "When the two are in the best state at the same time, the gap is actually small. But Lewin's stability and attendance rate are indeed fatal injuries."
After joining Everton from Sheffield United for 1.5 million pounds in 2016, Lewin played 273 games in various competitions, contributing 71 goals and 22 assists. In the 2020-21 season, he was elected as the best player in the team with 16 league goals, second only to legends Duncan Ferguson and Lukaku in the Premier League scorer list in Everton's history.
