Hospitals generally recommend that dogs undergo sterilization surgery before the first estrus. Small dogs are about 6-8 months old, and large dogs are relatively slow to grow. It is recommended to be around 1 year old. But if your dog has passed the best age, the earlier it is, the better, because the older you are, the higher the corresponding risk of anesthesia.

The benefits of early sterilization:

Studies have shown that early sterilization can effectively reduce the incidence of breast tumors and uterine pus in female dogs and prostate diseases in male dogs.

Dogs are in good health during youth, which helps to recover after surgery.

Age pets are more likely to experience cardiovascular problems such as bradycardia, arrhythmia, cardiopulmonary arrest during anesthesia. Early sterilization can reduce the risk of anesthesia.

Note:

The female dog should be avoided to operate during estrus, because the uterus increases uterine fragility, increase blood vessels, and become thicker during estrus. At this time, sterilization surgery will increase the risk of surgical bleeding.
