Recently, a video of "Wild giant pandas found in Qinghai" was circulated on multiple social platforms. In the video, a giant panda crawled upwards on the hillside. The publisher also marked the location of discovery in the text and videos.
After this video was released, some netizens were worried about the survival status of giant pandas in the video, and some netizens also questioned the content of the video. "There are 100% no giant pandas in this habitat in the video. It is either fake videos or fake locations. In short, it is fake news, no accidents. Qinghai only has Tibetan brown bears, no wild giant pandas, absolutely!" said the reply from the post of "Round Palm" certified by Weibo as a well-known science popularization blogger.
In Qinghai, there are three areas called Shaliuhe, located in Gangcha County, Haibei Tibetan Autonomous Prefecture, Qinghai Province, Dulan County, Haixi Mongolian and Tibetan Autonomous Prefecture, and Ulan County. Among them, the highest average altitude is Wulan County, about 4,000 meters. The second is Gangcha County, about 3,300 meters. Dulan County has the lowest average altitude, about 3180 meters. The climates of the three places are mainly arid continental climate on the plateau, and the vegetation is mainly alpine meadows.
Regarding this matter, relevant staff from the Qinghai Provincial Forestry and Grassland Bureau said that the original distribution of giant pandas in China is mainly in the Baishui River generation in Sichuan, Shaanxi and Gansu. Giant pandas mainly make a living by eating bamboo such as arrow bamboo. There is no bamboo growing in Qinghai, so it can be judged that the geographical location in the video is not in Qinghai.
"Qinghai does not have any wild giant panda records, and the known wild giant panda distribution sites are particularly far away from Qinghai. There is no suitable habitat for wild giant pandas in Qinghai. After watching that video, I speculate that it is in the Baishui River or Diebu area of Gansu, where there are also giant pandas. Wild giant pandas cannot appear in Qinghai." Zhao Xiang, conservation director of the Landscape Nature Conservation Center, said.
