Prepare a pair of fine-tip tweezers or tools specifically designed for removing ticks. Make sure the tools are clean to avoid causing infection. Before removing the tick, soothe your dog to keep it quiet and relaxed and can be diverted with food or toys.
Use tweezers or tools to gently grasp the body part of the tick, as close as possible to the dog's skin. Be careful not to exert too much force to avoid the tick's head staying in the dog's skin. Pull up the tweezers or tool slowly and steadily until the tick is completely removed. Make sure not to flatten or twist the ticks to avoid releasing pathogens.
When the tick is completely removed, wipe the skin around the dog's ears with disinfectant or alcohol to disinfect the wound. Check that the tick is intact and place it in an airtight container for later delivery to the veterinarian for testing. Observe the dog's ears and seek medical attention immediately if any signs of infection (such as redness, swelling, bleeding or secretions).
