1880 Club notified members late at night on Monday (June 16) that the company had entered the temporary liquidation process. Founder Nicoson said that due to the continued decline in attendance and consumption and the failure of acquisition negotiations, the company was unable to repay employees' salaries and suppliers' arrears.
After the sudden announcement of the local private member club 1880, the National Workers' Federation (NTUC) stated that its Federation of Employees' Federation (AREU) is ready to assist affected employees, including referrals, career counseling and skills training.
AREU President Azman Bin Osman revealed to Lianhe Zaobao that 1880 is not a trade union enterprise, but the trade union will still provide necessary support to members, including connecting with the Employment and Functional Training Center (e2i) under the Vocational General Administration to obtain career matching, career planning and skill improvement advice.
Affected employees may contact AREU for assistance by email areu@ntuc.org.sg or telephone 6213 8061 (office hours are 9 a.m. to 6 p.m.).
In addition, union members who meet the eligibility requirements can also apply for the Training Assistance Program (UTAP) allowance to offset some training costs.
Zmann pointed out that "citizens or permanent residents participating in the e2i job search program can also apply for a temporary subsidy of up to $6,000 through the Skills Future Jobseeker Support scheme to alleviate financial pressure during job search."
